Objectives.
The main objective of the Phd program in Computing is the training of new doctors in the area of Advanced Computing, that is:
- OB1 : preparation of the doctoral thesis and defense before an expert tribunal.
To do this, following the usual guidance of a research doctor (Philosophiae Doctor, Ph.D.) this main objective is broken down into the following more specific objectives:
- OB2 : Provide advanced training in research methodology and related tasks: systematic acquisition of knowledge of the state of the art, development of the scientific method, hypothesis approach, evaluation of results, preparation of publications and presentation of research work.
- OB3 : Require from the outset the development of a quality research work, providing the appropriate evaluation criteria for this purpose.
- OB4 : Encourage the creation and interpretation of new knowledge, through the elaboration of original research work that:
- satisfy a peer review
- expand the vanguard of the discipline and
- make merit enough for publication.
Competencies. At least the following basic competencies set forth in Art. 5 of RD 99/2011 will be guaranteed:
- Systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the research skills and methods related to that field.
- Ability to conceive, design or create, implement and adopt a substantial research or creation process.
- Ability to contribute to the expansion of the frontiers of knowledge through original research.
- Ability to perform a critical analysis and evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
- Ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about their fields of knowledge in the usual ways and languages of their international scientific community.
- Ability to promote, in academic and professional contexts, scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural progress within a knowledge-based society.
